27 January is Holocaust Memorial Day, and the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. This year 2020 marks the 75th since the liberation of this most famous of Nazi death camps and, as the years pass, it becomes even more important to take any opportunity to hear the testimony of survivors – the numbers of whom are dwindling now at a fast pace.
I was honoured to photograph The Association of Jewish Refugee’s Holocaust Memorial Day commemoration service this year, where we were able to hear from two Auschwitz survivors – Frank Bright and Zigi Shipper, both over 90 years old. BBC Radio4 were present to interview these two gentlemen for their Sunday programme and I’m delighted that they have used one of my photographs on their social media and website.
